Also in Belgium (Europe) there are  many celebrations going on to commemorate the first big War (1914-18). The last post is played every evening at the Menin gate in Ypres.   The red poppies are a symbol of WWII since the Canadian lieutenant-colonel  John McCray wrote a poem about this flower that grew over the graves of the fallen soldiers.

one piece of red upholstery fabric for the appliqué flowers on black cotton. Double batting under the flowers. Embroidery stitch on the raw edge. "YPRES" is written in every flower.
